For three years I experienced ongoing and periodic sandmound septic system problems. No one could determine why I was having these problems. My septic service man thought I would have to replace my sandmound system. Two simple experiments and a startling discovery enabled me to resolve my septic system problems without the costly option of replacing my sandmound system.
Your first reaction to the information I will share with you may be like St. Thomas—the doubter. This was the reaction of my two septic service men. They did not accept my discoveries or my evidence. They told me my theory on the cause of my septic problems was impossible. They were certain my theory was wrong.
If you, or anyone in your household, are taking medications with a 24- hour or slow release component and you are experiencing ongoing or periodic septic system problems you should order my reports now. Why? After three years of ongoing septic system problems I discovered my slow release allergy medications were the cause of my septic system problems. Surprised? Find this hard to believe?
Perform my simple home test with your medications to find out if they could be causing your septic problems. You can perform this simple home test in your kitchen. This simple home test and my results are explained in my Special Report No. 1.

Conventional septic drain field systems can and do have similar kinds of problems that I had with my sandmound septic system. I said similar because the piping systems are larger but the problems have the same cause and the results are the same. Continue reading and find out about a local homeowner who had to replace their conventional septic drain field system because of their medications.
My Special Reports inform you about my experiments, my discoveries and about more recent technology for inspecting and cleaning septic system piping systems without digging them up. My reports inform you about this technology and the capabilities your septic service firm needs to do this work. These technologies were not available when I needed to have my system inspected and cleaned.
There are a number of approved onsite or onlot sewage disposal systems for residential homeowners and small business owners. The number and type of approved onsite septic systems varies by state. Almost all use tanks, piping, and some type of drain field or bed to absorb the effluent liquid. Some operate on gravity and some use dosing or liquid tank pumps.
This web site and the reports I offer primarily focus on sandmound septic systems and conventional septic drain field systems. The information in my reports will apply to almost all septic systems that use tanks, piping systems, with holes along the length of the piping, and some type of drain field and bed to absorb the effluent.
The operational principles of most onsite septic systems are similar. After biological treatment and separation of the solids and liquids in tanks, the liquid is transported to a drain field or bed so the soil can absorb it. The liquid is transported by gravity or by pumps.
Most of the homes in my rural area have one acre lots with either a sandmound or conventional septic drain field systems. I have an onsite sandmound septic system. My sandmound is flat and was difficult to locate when my septic system problems began. Special Report No. 2 has suggestions for locating septic systems.

During my three years of ongoing and periodic septic system problems my dosing tank alarm went off periodically, two burned out dosing or liquid tank pumps were replaced, and I had the tanks pumped three times. Two septic service firms could not identify my problem and tell me why I was having my ongoing septic problems. The sandmound was not leaking anywhere and there were no soft spots in my yard. The system would function okay for a few months and then bang another problem!
These problems were very frustrating because no one, including me, had any clue what was causing my septic problems. In many similar ongoing septic problem situations, a typical septic service provider or a local sewage enforcement officer, SEO, might tell you your system has failed and has to be replaced. Fortunately there is technology to inspect septic systems to determine the actual conditions in your system based on visual evidence. My Special Reports cover this technology.
My sewage load was normally very light as my children have their own homes. We were pretty certain the amount of sewage or effluent was not the problem. The symptoms seemed to indicate a system that could not handle the effluent. This conclusion does not inform you why or identify the basic problem. The information in my two Special Reports should help you and or your septic service provider identify and solve your problem.
We did not know why my dosing tank pumps burned out or why the dosing tank floats caused my basement alarm to begin blaring. The dosing tank floats cause the alarm to go off because the liquid level is too high. The question was why was the liquid level too high? It turned out the basic cause of these two problems was the same.
Based on a suggestion of my septic service man, I conducted a simple outdoor experiment with my sandmound system. My septic service man was certain I would find black sludge pumped out on the lawn when I took the cleanout caps off. I did not expect to find any black sludge or learn anything from this experiment. My accidental discovery was amazing! I could not believe what I discovered. I almost missed finding my first discovery because I was looking for black sludge. I did not find any black sludge.
Following this amazing discovery, I immediately ran a second very simple experiment in my kitchen. Within a few days I realized my second discovery. My kitchen experiment provided more evidence. I thought I had the proof of what was causing my ongoing septic system problems. You can perform my simple home test, with your own medications, described in my Special Report No. 1.
When I showed my evidence from my lawn discovery and my kitchen experiment to my septic service man, and later to a Roto-Rooter service man, they both told me it was impossible. They told me it could not happen. They told me I would have to prove it to them. They were just like St. Thomas the doubter. At this juncture, it was the opinions of two very experienced septic service men versus my layman’s opinion and evidence.
I did not argue. Instead, I told the men I wanted my system inspected and thoroughly cleaned.
We developed a mutually agreed to protocol for cleaning my septic system, inspecting the tanks and the sandmound piping plus digging up the gravel bed to inspect its condition. My septic service man was convinced that my gravel bed was “fried like rice from sludge getting into the gravel bed and would have to be replaced”. This option would have been very expensive.
During the cleaning process my septic service man and the Roto-Rooter service man found the source of my septic system problems. They were very surprised and they both said, “Well I’ll be damned”. They were amazed. They told me if they had not seen the evidence they found in the system they would never have believed it was possible.
Finally, after three troubling years we found the cause of my septic system problems!! My evidence was confirmed and my theory was correct. You can have the benefit of all we learned in my Special Report No. 1.
What was the startling discovery I found from my experiments? As I wrote earlier, my septic system problems were caused by my allergy medications. My first discovery startled me. After doing some homework, I learned my allergy medications had a slow release component or 24-hour release mechanism.
Perform my simple home test and find out your results. You may be amazed!

According to two pharmacists I have spoken with there are hundreds of medications with a slow release mechanism or component. The mechanisms or components may vary. In spite of what you may have been told or believe, slow release medication components can and do cause septic system problems.
One homeowner in my county was “ordered by their SEO” to replace their conventional drain field system because it had “failed”. Their system could not handle the water volume from repeated laundry loads. Their problem, which they did not know about, was caused by their slow release allergy medications. Their estimated replacement cost was $20,000.
Not sure if any of the medications you are taking could cause you to have septic problems? You should definitely run my simple home experiment with your medications to learn what might be causing your septic problems. Within seven to 10 days you should have visual results.
Sludge can be another major problem for sandmound septic systems and conventional septic drain field systems. Actually, sludge can be a major problem for any septic system that uses a piping system and a gravel bed for the effluent to pass through to the soil or absorption bed. Sludge in your piping system and drain field will reduce your systems effluent handling capacity. The sludge could block the piping and or the gravel bed and your septic system would not be able to function.
A neighbor on my street had a conventional septic drain field system problem. His system was leaking onto his lawn. He was ordered to replace it. During his discussions with officials he learned a township sewage officer had approved a system that was too small for his size home. When the homeowner’s contractor dug up the system they found out the piping system was full of sludge that blocked the liquid effluent from going into the gravel bed. The gravel bed looked fine. I spoke with the contractor and saw the sludge clogged piping system.
My neighbor could have saved much of the money he spent replacing the system if he, the local “official”, or his contractor knew about the existing technologies for inspecting and for cleaning septic systems. The sewage official assumed the system had failed but he did not know the actual conditions in the piping system or the gravel bed. This septic piping system could have been cleaned without digging up the entire drain field area. Instead of spending about $10,000 to replace his system he could have spent an estimated $500 to $1,000 to have the system inspected and cleaned.
Technology exists to inspect septic piping systems without digging them up to find out the conditions within the sandmound or conventional drain field piping systems. We had to dig my sandmound piping system up to inspect the pipes and gravel bed because my septic service man did not have this technology and I did not know about it. My Special Reports cover this technology and inform you about the capabilities your septic service provider should have to perform this kind of work.
Finding the location of a sandmound system or a conventional septic drain field system, as well as the tanks can be a problem. My first septic service man had a difficult time trying to locate my solids tank and my sandmound. My cleanout risers and caps took a lot of searching and digging as they were buried in the lawn. Special Report No. 2 has suggestions and ideas for locating your sandmound system and tanks and your conventional septic drain field system and tanks.

My Special Reports inform you about my septic system problems, my experiments and discoveries, and how I solved my own septic problems. The sections on inspecting and cleaning septic systems could save you the expense of digging up your system to find out the actual conditions in your system. This information could save you the expense of having to replace your system because someone thinks your system has failed and needs to be replaced. They could easily be wrong.
Why spend time and money trying to find out what is causing your septic system problems when my Special Reports will provide you the information and answers you need. You will quickly be able to determine if your mediations are causing your problems. My information on inspecting and cleaning septic systems could save you a lot of time and money.
Based on all I learned, I suggest you do two things to zero in on the cause of your septic system problems. First, conduct my simple home test with your medications. Second, if you obtain results similar to mine, I would suggest you have your piping system inspected with the technology covered in my Special Reports.
Your tanks should be visually inspected when your piping system is checked. There was visual evidence in my dosing tank for three years that was not observed by two septic service providers or by me. We did not know what to look for because we did not know the source of my ongoing problems. My Special Reports cover what we missed.
These two action items should provide you with facts and the actual conditions in your piping system. With this information you will be able to make an intelligent decision on a course of action.
My Special Reports are easy to read and understand. They inform you about my problems, my simple experiments and discoveries, all we learned, and the steps I took to resolve my septic problems. Included are suggestions you can take to identify the source of and resolve your septic system problems.
